Classes
To become a licensed massage therapist in the state of Texas, students enrolling in a massage therapy training program after September 1, 2007 are required to complete a 500 hour curriculum. In addition, passing one of three examinations is required.
Two exams are given by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). One exam is given by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB).
At AIM, the 500 hour curriculum is divided into three semesters. The academic portion of the program will meet in two semesters; a fall and a spring session. Subjects covered in the fall semester include Anatomy, Pathology, Health, Hydrotherapy and Technique. The spring semester includes Kinesiology, Business, Physiology, Hydrotherapy and Technique. Once the student has completed the 450 hours of academic work, the 50 hour internship will be scheduled. During the academic portion of the program, classes will meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 2 pm.
The Fall 2008 semester will meet from August 13 to November 20.
